Hey everyone,
I was wondering, I had found more information on the government and busing. In the paper there is some information on the topic in the background section, but I had found some information that talked about proposed amendments to the law and then other proposals later that talked about withholding funding for busing because it was going so badly. Do you think that we could/should add any of that information into the paper? --Becca
Hi, All,
In case you haven't checked your e-mail before logging onto our wiki, go check your e-mail first. Here, however, is our finished paper. Check your e-mail for the list of things to check. ---Madison
I made a few minor corrections that I saw necessary... Here it is after my review---Nathan
Do you think your section "Local control and power is undercut by State and Federal authorities" fits under the encroachment of people's freedom section? Now that that section is more developed take a look and tell me what you think.
Hi, All,
I just wanted to give a quick update. I've been adding more information throughout the paper tonight..err...this morning as it's now 3:30am. However, I've put our "paper" into a word document and formatted as we would when we turn it in and the paper is at 11.5 pages, so we do not have much room to play with. We could, however, play with the margins, etc. Also, once we've added all our information we could go throughout it and reduce certain areas, perhaps. Anyways, have a good day! Keep me posted on your progress.

Hi, All, The paper is looking absolutely amazing! I inserted it into Word and adjusted the font and double-spaced it and everything, and we're at approximately 8 pages (and I've added more since doing that). So, I think we are sitting fairly nicely. I think we should all keep adding to it as needed, but maybe make a note on this page once you believe you've finished adding information. That way, we can transfer the paper into word to better organize it.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Our "Boston Busing Crisis" page only has the bibliography. We will also need to include footnotes, which are slightly different than what appears in the bibliography. That said, keep all your sources in case the footnotes require any different information than the bibliography.
Happy posting!

Hi, All,
I created a new page (<-----) for us to work on our paper in. I wrote a few headings, but feel free to add more. For now, begin putting your sources in the appropriate location. If possible, we can organize the paragraphs and sections as we post. Happy postings!

Alright so we scrapped the idea that we had.
We are starting new again.
Madison and I thought we could research the issue of busing during the civil rights movement.
Hope that this issue is okay.
We are planning to get information and an outline for him to approve on Monday.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Sounds fine to me...anything to get this assignment off our plate at this point would be fabulous.
So, I started researching. The biggest targets I found for information are New Orleans and Boston. It appears that New Orleans busing was on the earlier end of the 60's whereas Boston appears to be more early 70's. I tried looking for anywhere closer to home, such as big cities like Milwaukee, but even the local sources I found regard either New Orleans or Boston. There were some references to the issue in California, and also one very intriguing area that popped up is Prince George's County in Maryland, but their particular issue has carried beyond the year 2000, so I imagine our professor might not like that.
All in all, I think we can definitely run with this, and it's just a matter of targeting a thesis to build our resources around. I'm available on campus tomorrow between classes from 10:10-12:40 if anyone is available and/or would like to meet. Or, if you have any particular inkling toward a thesis, just let me know and I'll start collecting research. Either way I'll be spending some of my time in a lab gathering potential sources. I'm also free for part of the day on Monday, and I'm trying to arrange for someone to take care of my kids next Tuesday so that I would have the day free to devote to this project. I'd probably be on campus that day too if that pans out.
Thanks and keep in touch.
Nathan
O.K. I will start researching the topic too.
Nathan- I don't think Becca and Madison are able to chack WIKI or e-mail until late friday, so let's keep researching the topic.

Sounds good. Most of what I am finding today is still heavy toward Boston, so I'd suggest we go with that unless anyone else has a strong opinion otherwise.
Here's a couple articles from Time magazine that I thought might be helpful-
I have about 15 newspaper articles collected and printed out (which I won't post here now, but please let me know if you'd like them linked at some point). I'm saving them to my TitanFiles account for now. They are mostly dated between 1970-75.
Keep in touch.

I found a bunch of articles too.
I will bring them to class.
